Writing and Time

My friend e-mailed me the other day, telling me he was on the final editor of his huge novel that he had spent almost ten years on. Yeap, ten years of hard work. I have to admit, I was jealous of his time and dedication to a project he believes in and trust me he’ll succeed with it.

It got me to thinking, how many writers give up the ghost. They today I was bouncing around some other writers’ blogs. A decent amount had fallen silent. What happened to them…what happened to their dreams…what’s happening to mine.

I’m almost finished with the first part of a trilogy I’ve invested three years in. Why did I stop and just leave my characters abandoned like that…

Border Rewards

I never really minded getting my Borders Rewards e-mail. They always send you some coupons, which I use every so often. But the other day one of the e-mails bothered me. It was not just promoting the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy, but ahead of the title was “Oprah picks…” Is the fact that it is an “Oprah Pick” more important than the novel? Something about the whole thing just annoyed me.

Are video games getting too easy?

I’ve been a gamer all my life. From the days of Atari and Intellivision to King’s Quest to Quake to Kingpin to Call of Duty to Neverwinter 2. I’ve played pretty much all of them, and even designed maps, skins, arenas and worlds!

When gaming first started there were no saves and respawn points. When you played a game you played it from start to finish. If you died you died and you’d have to start from the beginning and play your way through again. Of course, back them there was no such thing as hard drives built into the machines. Hell, my first PC didn’t even have a hard drive.

Automotive Sin

Today I saw the worst thing I’ve ever seen done to a car. I was outside smoking a cigarette and here comes a Mary Key Pink De Lorean driving down the road. I was horrified on many levels.

Knowledge

Brains are not measured in pounds, but in knowledge…and knowledge can only be measured in grams.

Yes, this makes no sense.
